A little bit about me and my life
in Cyprus
When you get
talking to people they all ask the same question and want to
know ‘What bought you to Cyprus?’
Well, I had
met Colin just after he purchased a property here and it was his
dream to live abroad. It certainly wasn’t my dream as I loved
my job in the UK and never thought for one minute of ever
working anywhere else. After long discussions and threats of
ending the relationship I literally woke up one morning and
decided to ‘do it’ and move to Paphos, after all, what had I got
to loose?
Colin was really pleased of course and he had organised a
container there and then once we decided on date. So on the 1st
of June 2005 we were on our way and we have never looked back
since. I had my first wedding on the 2nd June, there
is nothing like being thrown in at the deep end!!
Colin had already run his new business venture of holiday
lettings from the UK for a year before we moved so he was well
established when we arrived.
I had done lots of homework before hand and realised I would not
miss my job as a make-up artist too much as I could continue
with it here, especially with bridal make-up which I enjoy doing
the most, it’s a good job really with the amount of weddings
here in Cyprus!!! It certainly keeps me busy.
Colin and I
were married on 1st June 2007 at Zucchini, Peyia. We
had 86 guests at the wedding that all travelled over from the UK
to be with us. It was amazing and I was glad to have
experienced what all the other Bride’s experience, tying the
knot Paphos.
After a full
day’s work whether it’s make-up trials or the wedding itself
I return home to Colin and our dog Jasmine. Some good
friends of ours rescued Jasmine as she was tied to a post in
the hot sun with just a bowl of water for days on end. We
took her in, again after a lot of persuading from Colin (it
takes along time for me to give in to him getting his own
way, you notice!) I learned to love her and take her under
my wing. Jas has made several appearances in the Paphos Dog
show, winning the happiest dog 2006. I taught her to ‘roll
over’ for the Crufts judge which won his heart! Since then
I have trained her to do all sorts of tricks such as: twirl,
weave through my legs, jump over my legs, crawl, walk
backwards, play dead, wave. The list goes on, but she loves
to please me and she brings so much joy to us, she is a
great dog. We also did a circus routine with the dog
training group we used to attend, me dressed as a clown, now
that was a sight I can tell you.
I also love
to bake! I am always making cakes, cookies, sweets etc. I
also like to eat them but as I am always on a diet I do give
the majority of it away to my neighbours and friends. I
have made many friends through my baking!!!
If we are
not at home entertaining around the BBQ we are usually out
with family and friends for dinner relaxing and enjoying the
Cyprus way of life.
So……. With
almost five years under my belt as an ex-pat in Cyprus I am
having a ball, which is all down to the job I do |
